Rockhampton Supreme Court 2024 – Pre-Trial Application - Drug Trafficking count discontinued

Phillips Lawyers

In September 2022, Nick Crawford of our office was engaged to act for his client who was charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs and remanded in custody before the Capricornia Correctional Centre (Rockhampton). This offence carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. Our client was also charged with six counts of possessing dangerous drugs.  Our client was originally refused bail before the Rockhampton Magistrates Court.  On 12 October 2022, Nick Crawford appeared before the Brisbane Supreme Court and made a successful Supreme Court bail application.

The matter was later listed for a pre-trial hearing with cross examination of co-accused in the alleged trafficking syndicatein 2024.

Following a comprehensive review of the evidence, Nick Crawford briefed Scott Lynch of Counsel to conduct cross-examination of a key witness. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions found that the witnesses’ evidence could not be relied upon. Subsequently, Nick Crawford drafted a persuasive submission, resulting in the trafficking in dangerous drugs charge being discontinued.
