Not guilty verdict after jury deliberation 18 minutes of deliberation - Choking offence Brisbane District CourtFeb 2025

Nick Crawford was engaged to act for a client who was charged with choking in a domestic violence setting.Lara Soldi of counsel, instructed by Nick Crawford appeared before the Brisbane District Court on 4 February 2025 for trial.  Detailed instructions were obtained resulting in various disclosure requests beingsent to various Law Enforcement bodies in relation to the complainant.

Our client had been on bail since being charged in January 2024. After the first day of trial and cross examination of the complainant, the Presiding Judge requested the Crown Prosecutor to consider their position given the evidence provided.

Despite the charges not being withdrawn, after closing addresses on day 2 of the trial, the jury took 18 minutes to deliberate before returning a verdict of not guilty.  

The client was extremely grateful and very happy to put this event behind him.
