Nick Crawford of our office was engaged to act for his client who was charged with supplying, possessing, and trafficking in dangerous drugs. This offence carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
Operation Whiskey Whisper led by the Hendra Criminal Investigation Branch, conducted a protracted investigation into alleged drug trafficking and importation between Sydney, Brisbane and surrounding areas.
In October 2024, our client was intercepted by police. Following a vehicle search, approximately 30kg of methylamphetamine concealed in tea packaging was allegedly located. This amount has a street value of approximately $2.6 million.
Investigators from North Brisbane Criminal Investigation Branch South executed a search warrant at our client’s residence. Police allegedly located s4 or s8 hazardous poisons, steroids, syringes, methylamphetamine, and currency suspected to be proceeds of crime.
The police charged him and objected to his bail. A thorough review of the bail objection was performed by Nick Crawford. He made submissions about the strength of evidence, criticizing the police allegations that the defendant operated certain Threema ‘handles’.
Our client had minimal criminal history—none of which related to failing to appear, breaching bail, or violent crimes. Nick Crawford submitted any risk of breaching bail would be ameliorated through a GPS tracker, curfew, reporting and travel restrictions.
On 11 November 2024, the Magistrate granted our client bail.
